In the plant world, the ferns hold a special place, by their importance (second in number of representatives) and their specific mode of reproduction.
There is an alternation between vegetative system, very visible, what is commonly called "fern" and can reach very large sizes, and a reproductive system, inconspicuous, the prothallus, which is carried by the sexual reproduction.
The fern presented here is not an exception. Asplenium Adiantum-nigrum L.1753 is a fern of relatively large size (up to 50 centimeters in height for the sporophyte).
It is a perennial plant whose fronds are more or less dark shiny green. The petiole is dark brown as long or longer than the blade. The rachis is green. The fronds are triangular-lanceolate, two or three times pinnate, ultimate segments of the fronds are slightly toothed.
The plant can sometimes become very invasive. It grows well in wet environments, generaly not too influenced by the sunshine.
This plant is relatively common and can be found almost in all the planet, in wet places generally.
You can see a full size view here.
The photography was taken in the morning, around 8.00 a.m. Inside the forest, at that time, the lighting conditions are not very favorable. Anyway, it has been possible to take the photo.
The equivalent sensitivity is ISO-100, in order to avoid too much pixelisation. As the lighting is low, i have choosen an aperture of F/3.2. With those parameters and a focal length of 9 mm. the speed has been calculated at 1/50 th.
The quality of the picture has been improved by by the modification of the gamma (0.8 from the original), amelioration of the sharpness and noise reduction. Cropping from 3648 x 2736 to 1786 x 1786 (and thereafter, to 800 x 800 in order to comply with I.B. policy).

Excellent photo against a dark background. Interesting that they should have this fern. regards yiannis
I'm a florist by trade and in the florist trade we call this a leather leaf and this one is a beautiful healthy leather leaf and perfect for arranging flowers. This is a strong fern and can even grow in our Phalaborwa heat in the shade. You've captured it with good clear detail and the color is beautiful. Well done.
