Social system

Female greater kudus live in small herds of six to twenty individuals along with their calves, though males tend to be mainly solitary, they sometimes form bachelor herds that consist of 4 to 8 young males (sometimes with an older bull as well). Rarely will a herd reach a size of forty individuals, partly because of the selective nature of their diet which would make foraging for food difficult in large groups. A herd's area can encompass 800 to 1500 acres, and spend an average of 54% of the day foraging for food.

Fully mature males will often fight other males by interlocking their horns with the other until one of them admits defeat and gives in. In rare circumstances this can sometimes result in both males being unable to free themselves from the other's horns, usually resulting in the death of both animals. Females may sometimes ward off males by biting them, due to their lack of horns.

Hi Annick. A very good close up shot of the Kudu . You have used the light so well in this picture which has given good detail and natural looking colours. It has very large ears which can be seen in your shot.. well done TFS.

Hello Annick,
Very nice presentation, the Kudu is chewing its food is a great
POV.. Well done

Hi Annick, this is a well detailed and sharp image of the kudu...the features in it's face is first class and the "blood" vessels are clearly visible under the fur on the ears...a wonderful image ..TFS ...

Those aren't eyelashes... they are visors!! This is such a nice intimate portrait with lovely natural framing. I love the yellows.

Hi Friend Annick,

A lovely and fantastic shoot of this beautiful Kudu with excellent photographic criteria, as always. I like to watch all herbivorous mammals while they exhibit the rumination process and their lovely face during that time:-)as you screened here. TFS my friend. Cheers,

I think it was a great notion to hide it behind the delicate greenery's, yet not so much as to disturb the focal point. well composed in that regards and all else seems spot on Annick!

Hi Annick, I hope this one is chewing and that's not a dislocated jaw. Very excellent detail seen on this Greater Kudu. The light in this shot is very good with very good shadow detail created with the tree she seems to be feeding on. Great colour. Even close up she seems to blend in with the muted background.

Thanks, John
