Finally i got opportunity to shoot a butterfly after a long break. This Junonia almana was resting on the buds of Mogra.

The Peacock Pansy Junonia almana is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in South Asia. This specimen shows the wet season form of the peacock pansy.

This shot has been taken with Nikon D 80 handheld with Sigma 70/300 Apo Dg Macro lens in macro mode. The raw to jpeg conversion, resizing and framing done for final presentation.

Now the butterflies are seen everywhere and seems like the right time to go for shooting butterflies. I hope that i will have a chance to go for a buttefly chasing trip soon so that i wont miss out this season.

Hi Pankaj,
Lovely shot with a beautiful setting. It's crisp sharp, very well composed and exposed. TFS
Best wishes,

What a wonderful signature befitting the natural earth tones once more...You alone of India can post earth tonals without having to resort to too much..not that too much is really too:-) there are good times for use and not as good...but when it comes to technical details, you have it spot on but I do love the signature:-)

I repeat what just wrote to Claudine, Pankaj, it is stupid to even try to critique perfection, I don't want to do the 'suraj ko diya nahin dikhana'!
Keep up the great work, my friend!

Hi Pankaj,

Very nice shot of peacock pansy, the background is complementing too, compo is good, though I felt little more space on top would look still better, its my view. :)TFS.

A wonderful capture of Peacock Pansy, Pankaj.
I have yet to see one this year.
The image is sharp and crisp with exquisite details on its nether wings.
The Mogra flowers make a beautiful perch and add to the beauty of the composition.
TFS this lovely picture.

Hi Pankaj,
Outstanding shot of this beautiful Peacock Pansy with immaculate sharpness, lovely colours and fine details. The lighting is so soothing and skillfully handled. A classic pose captured on those tiny flower buds and the darkish BG helps in highlighting the subjects perfectly. Excellent DOF, POV and composition. Kudos.

Hi Pankaj,
Back to your butterfly posts:)?

I am sure you are having a great time shooting butterflies. I guess that is one of the pluses of living in a nature endowed state like Chattisgarh. The flora and fauna must be so abundant there:)

I like the capture of this Pansy with the wings closed. You do mention this being its rainy season appearance...i would like to understand that point a bit more...do they change colour otherwise or even the patterns?

This one is so beautiful with every bit of detail on its wing standing out. The complete subject is highlighted well with fine sharpness and focus.I saw it once here in our campus with open wings but not it was too quick to give me a glimpse and move away.

I like the PoV, the pose, the DoF and the mood created by the light here. The dark BG goes very well with the subject and the white of the mogra is well exposed.A very perfect composition from a master of macros.

TFS & Cheers
