|[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista|
|During our morning safari trip on Thandi Sarak (Cool Road)at Dhikala, Corbett National Park; I could see two deer hiding from us in the thick forest; a cute little fawn and the other was its mother. They continued noiselessly standing in the same pose till we reached quite close to them. The mother was hiding her face under the leaves of Sal tree (Shorea robusta), whereas the little one was on guard to the best of its capabilities. I remained throughout perplexed as to how this small fellow had been getting away with the tigers of Jim Corbett National Park |
Sambar deer are the favorite prey species of the tiger. A large sambar can feed a feed tiger for up to 4 days. Unlike the Spotted deer, which shouts an alarm and darts away at the sight of a predator, the sambar tends to alertly watch and keep giving alarm calls until the danger has passed. A reason due to which many of them fall prey for predators.
