|I was fortunate to visit one of the most beautiful places in our country - Ladakh. Ladakh is any photographers delight and is a place for a wide angled lens but I did find couple of opportunities to use my Tamron long lens.|
I shot this picture of the Brown headed gull in Pangong Lake. It was almost dark & grey and rain was in the air. I had to bump up the ISO to 1600 to even get a decent shot. However, as evident in the picture, it came out grainy.
Brown headed Gull:
The brown-headed gull (Chroicocephalus brunnicephalus) is a small gull which breeds in the high plateaus of central Asia from Tajikistan to Ordos in Inner Mongolia. It is migratory, wintering on the coasts and large inland lakes of the Indian Subcontinent. This gull breeds in colonies in large reedbeds or marshes, or on islands in lakes, nesting on the ground. Like most gulls, it is highly gregarious in winter, both when feeding or in evening roosts. It is not a pelagic species, and is rarely seen at sea far from coasts.
The brown-headed gull is slightly larger than black-headed gull. The summer adult has a pale brown head, lighter than that of black-headed, a pale grey body, and red bill and legs. The black tips to the primary wing feathers have conspicuous white "mirrors". The underwing is grey with black flight feathers. The brown hood is lost in winter, leaving just dark vertical streaks.

Even with a hint of graininess it is still a great capture. I love it beautiful contrasting colors and unique markings. I don't believe I have ever seen this particular species before. Nice eye contact and very pretty ruby red beak.
This is a new species of Gull for me and that too from Pangong lake in Ladakh, Satirtha.
You did a wonderful job of shooting the bird in poor light conditions and an equally effective job at PP. There is no noise in the picture and the eye of the bird is in perfect focus.
Thanks for visiting my gallery. I just return a few moments ago from my short trip to Danube Delta.....I will post some interesting scenes.....
I can not describe in words what nature can show.....a fantastic bird world on water.....
Nice image with a lovely specie of gull with beautiful colors.
Beautiful photo, even in difficult light conditions. Nicely composed, effective image, and you can reduce the noise with the free demo of Neat Image (can be used as a standaalone program or a module for Photoshop) - many of us are doing that. Good luck!
Kind regards from Ireland, László
