|The wonders of Costa Rica:|
We Old-World inhabitants cannot stop marvelling about hummingbirds in the New World. Here I present the Rufous-tailed Hummingbird (Amazilia tzacatl; El amazilia de cola rufa; Rostschwänziger Kolibri. Trochilidae. Apodiformes). The species can be seen in all of Costa Rica and elsewhere. There are 50 species of hummingbirds in the country.
Photography of Hummingbirds demands special skills which I don't have: this bird is not shy but small (10 cm), has extremely fast movements and a wing bat frequency of 40 or so. You need short exposure times and enough light if you want to picture it when visiting a flower in hover flight. Since the bird moves rapidly and jerkily from flower to flower, the challenge is to follow and to focus with a tele lens. Some people on TN have presented amazing shots. I took the picture while it was raining and dark, I had to work the picture in PS for contrast and saturation.

Beautiful capture, Dietrich!
It's a new species of birds for me and it is just incredibly attractive.
Sharp focus, brilliant natural colours and a lovely composition.
Wunderbar!
Mit Dank und herzlichem Gruss,
Hello ð Dietrich,
Beautiful bird ð¦. Very well captured even in such difficult POV. I like its background as well as composition where you tried to show its natural habitat. Details are good too.
Thanks for sharing your work with us ð
