|The wonders of Costa Rica:|
this Crested Guan (Penelope purpurascens, La pava moñuda, Kronenguan. Cracidae, Galliformes) has shown up in front of the research station in the forest La Selva. The bird is special in many ways. As a leaf eater it needs a particular stomach to digest the almost impatable stuff. It spends most of its time in trees, a surprising fact for a 90 centimeter long bird. There are relatives of the Guan that are also occurring in Central America, like the Great Curassow (Hokko) or the Chachalaca. They are not related to Fowl and Pheasants of the Old World. Efforts to domesticate any of these species have not met with success.
The technical problem I had was not the movement or the distance of the bird but the DOF in low light. But as the saying goes: "Photography in a rain forest is a challenge".

Excellent, perfect exposure and composition, greetings from Baluchistan.
Difficult angle of exposure, but you have managed it well, Dietrich.
The eye in particular looks wonderful.

Wow..das ist ja eine Attraktion und sie heisst dann noch Penelope..
Interessante Notiz auch, so viele Vögel essen nicht Blätter,.
Schön gezeigt im natürlichen Habitat.
