[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
This is a Red-tailed Hawk taken at the Read Sanctuary in Rye NY. This was one of two red-tailed hawks i saw flying around that day.

Red-tailed Hawk: Large, highly variable hawk with brown upperparts, head and throat. The underparts are pale with brown streaks. Wings are pale below with dark bar at leading edge and dark tips. The tail is red-brown with dark terminal band. Legs and feet are yellow. Soars on thermals and updrafts.

Range and Habitat
Red-tailed Hawk: Found in Alaska and Canada south to Panama. Found in open country, woodlands, prairie groves, mountains, plains, farmlands, and roadsides.

INTERESTING FACTSThe raspy cry of the Red-tailed Hawk is typically used in movies to represent any eagle or hawk anywhere in the world.
They can spot a mouse from a height of 100 feet.
Males and females perform a courtship ritual in which they dive and roll in the sky. They will even lock talons and fall together a distance before splitting apart.
A group of hawks has many collective nouns, including a "boil", "knot", "spiraling", "stream", and "tower" of hawks.

You really have some good luck for this. I could only wish to be close enough. I had a feather for a while lets say 20 years:-) but I knew I was not supposed to have it so I gave it to a Native American who could legally have it....Canada is not as tough....but we are here...as you may know...GREAT image!

Hi Angela.
My best wishes to you and your family in New Year.
You have pictured a very cute bird. I like its pose, attractive head turn and impressive back POV. I also like winter sunlight (you have reflected this perfectly) and nice delicate colouration of the picture. All the best and kind regards.
Alexei.

hello Angela

Nice to see you on TN :)

I am surprised to find your TN gallery to have so many great photos. Good work you have been doing here.

Very nice capture of the hawk in such a bright light. Well placement in the composition. I can see the catch light in the eye with the head turned back. You are doing well with the 40D.

Good work.
Greetings from Malaysia.
tfs, bill
