[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
The same Black Vulture, viewed from Maryland and now on the far side of the Potomac River in Virginia, spreads its wings showing the coloration of the wingtips and the distinctive short tail.

Very poor light required an ISO of about 18,000, and the bird was probably close to half a mile away, so quality not good, but the first time I've been able to capture the wings like this - usually they are only visible when the bird is in flight.

With sooty black plumage, a bare black head, and neat white stars under the wingtips, Black Vultures are almost dapper. Whereas Turkey Vultures are lanky birds with teetering flight, Black Vultures are compact birds with broad wings, short tails, and powerful wingbeats. The two species often associate: the Black Vulture makes up for its poor sense of smell by following Turkey Vultures to carcasses. Highly social birds with fierce family loyalty, Black Vultures share food with relatives, feeding young for months after they’ve fledged.

Hello Alan,
Not nearly the high quality of your previous shot, but it still gives us a great look at its beautiful opened winged markings. I'm sure the very high ISO and the distance has a lot to do with the soft detail.
I have only seen a few Black Vultures, but never realized how pretty they looked from this angle. I would have been thrilled just to see this. TFS.
Ron
