Leafy Sea Dragon
|[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista|
|The Leafy Sea Dragon, is a marine fish related to the Seahorse. They are very large for sea horses, growing at least 18 inches (45 cm). They feed on plankton and small crustaceans. I found this dragon while diving in the cold waters of Tasmania.|
Females deposit eggs on the tail of the male where they grow to maturity. While diving in Tasmania I found 3 sea dragons – 2 were males that had eggs on their tails. Unfortunately, I did not get as good a picture of the males with eggs.
The waters around Tasmania are full of Kelp. I was told that most of the large kelp forests have disappeared – plus it looks as if the remaining kelp is in danger of disappearing in the near future. I’m not sure what this prognosis means for the Leafy Sea Dragon – which is already in danger of extinction.

A very colourful specimen. I have never seen this one before. it does resemble the Sea horse.Nice shot with good POV showing all the details. good notes too. Thanks a lot for introducing this new species,
It is so nice to see another of your colorful sea dragons. The fill-in flash illuminated the fish to a perfection, also softly lighting some of the kelps in the background, creating a perfect composition. Your POV was also perfect, making it possible to keep the whole dragon in sharp focus. Well done and TFS.
Amazing picture you have of the dragon. COLOURFUL and VIVID as sea-life always is. We don't many sea life picture posts, so it is always a pleasure to see if one posts them
Nice picture, but this is a weedy sea dragon, which is different from the leafy sea dragon.
Interesting species, totally new to me and I have added your work to my new theme "under and above the seas"
Your notes are educational. The details in the image sharp and the colours luminous.
Thanks for sharing
Warm regards from South Africa
