[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
While driving out towards Eungella Dam this male Australian Bustard (Ardeotis australis) casually strutted across the road in front of us. Unfortunately, the dark overcast conditions meant I had to use ISO 800 and he wasn’t interested in stopping to pose, thus I only managed a few shots out of the car window before he disappeared into the tall grassland that they love to hide in.
The bustard is a largish bird, standing 1.5m and they have a wingspan of 2.1m. They are found through the more arid parts of Australia, generally avoiding the southeast of the continent. They live in savannah grassland and woodland, and are usually observed alone and are not common anywhere.

Hi Chris,
a nice capture, the details are good and the low POV is very nice.
Lovely light and colours.
Well done.

Hi Chris,

Nice detail with good exposure and dof. The bird looks a lot like the Kori Bustard from South Africa which I have posted. They are definitely cousins from their looks.

Hello Chris,
A great capture of the Australian Bustard. We were lucky enough to see several on the Atherton Highlands and took some shots, but none as sharp and as close as this. Great use of the ISO 800.

Hi Chris,

how well you caught this running Bustard! You must have extremely well developed photographic reflexes. To take a portrait of any bustard in Europe, that is a matter of stalking, patience for days, telelens, tripod. Great, this portrait. Now I learned that there are Bustards in Australia, I had no idea about this before.

Best regards

Dietrich

Hi Chris,

A very pretty bustard, looks almost like the ones we have here in South Africa. A very nice pose!

Well done.

Hi Chris.

Very nice portrait bird, I like the point of view an pose bird, excellent composition with beauty colors and tones, godd note.

Thanks...RICARDO.

I saw a bustard in the same conditions as you in Africa. I missed.
There are some here in europe but so seldom that I don't even dream of seeing one.
You're lucky and have indeed excelent reflexes.
Pose, POV, colors are spot on.

Hello Chris,
From the last weeks I had a lot of photos to work off. This one I enjoy very well. What a beautiful colours and details in an excellent exposure.
Kind regards,
Peter

Hi Chris,
This is an impressive looking species.
Glad you managed to get at least one good shot. He looks a bit wet around the neck too.
Yesterday I managed to get a few reasonable shots of a Royal Spoonbill out by the Cobden tip.
Hope you are well.
Cheers
Steve

Great colours, details and composition.

What an amazing bird, Chris.
I have seen these bustards in zoos, and was awed by their huge sizes.
You captured this big guy against a light BG, allowing his colors and details to show up sharply. A great profile shot in excellent light.

Hello Chris,
Sorry to have missed your excellent capture of the Australian Bustard in a lovely pose. In spite of the poor weather you got very sharp details and fine colours of the plumage. We enjoyed spotting this species while in Australia but they seem very shy.
Well done!
TFS and regards, Ulla

Hello Chris,
Fascinating bird. Very similar to the 'big' bustard I wasn't to spot in South Africa. Well composed. Good content.

Hi Chris
what a nice capture for this beautiful Autralian bustard. From focus to POV and composition, all of them great. There are different three species of bustards here.m Unfortunately they are very rare and one of them probably extinct in Turkiye. Thanks for sharing, best wishes
Ahmet
