[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
Dear Friends,
As promised, today let me introduce another photo of frog mating series. As yesterday, the species is:

Rana temporaria
- European Common Brown Frog
Family:
Ranidae

The individual you see is a fully grown male of this species. Also it has a completely developed mating colouration.
As you probably know the usual colour of common frog is brownish with various dark markings on body sides, back and hind legs - also behind eyes it has a dark patch.

And above you may see how the male changes. It is now almost uniformly dark grey with barely visible markings.

But the most prominent feature is the throat. It has now bluish colouration, due to swollen lymphatic glands - it's especially well visible on this guy.

What is the meaning of such coloured throat!?
Brown frogs have reasonators in this place, and as they croak the throat is blown - with such contrast colour the male is much better visible for aproaching females.

Usually the males croak in large groups (will show that tomorrow), but some experienced and smart fellows, as this one, wait on a side, very close to the bank just wating to be the first to grasp the female when she enters the pond...

Here you can learn a bit more about this species and its habits:

Quite a unique shot, Michal. Selective illumination creates nice contrast and the eye stands out. Very sharp, as usual. Regards,
Hakan

Hi Michal

Another great shot of this lovely R. temporaria.
The dark coloration of this specimen looks great here and emphaizes the lovely mating color on the "neck".
The details are also very nice and sharp and the contrast between the highlights and the shadows is charming and eye-catching.
Good composition and note again.

Bravo and TFS

Hej!
Radek

Hi Michal,
very unusual, very good, this use of just a ray of light to the eyes. I know the species comes in many disguises, but this I have not seen before. Thanks for sharing with us,
My best regards
Dietrich
