[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
I'm back from my 4 day photography trip to the most southern province of the Netherlands, Limburg. This part of the country is know for its hills and for us Dutch it feels like beeing in a different country. The 4 day trip actually consisted out of two full days of photography and two days of traveling and setting up my tent. More details about the day to day activities can be found soon in my traveloque.

I have decided not to post my photos according to time and day, but more to the fact of what I like to post at the moment.

On my second day of photography, I got up early to beat the extreemly high temperatures and the very bright sunlight. (28 degrees C and no clouds) and visited the Gulp valley. Along the creek, I found a field full of Primula Veris (Cowslip) that just received some of the early morning rays of sun. There was still a lot of morning dew, which created thise beautiful small reflections.

Some information on the Primula Veris
Primula veris (Cowslip; syn. Primula officinalis Hill) is a flowering plant in the genus Primula, native throughout most of temperate Europe and Asia although absent from more northerly areas including northern Scotland.

It is a low growing herbaceous perennial plant with a rosette of leaves 5-15 cm long and 2-6 cm broad. The deep yellow flowers are produced in the spring between April and May; they are in clusters of 10-30 together on a single stem 5-20 cm tall, each flower 9-15 mm broad.

It is frequently found on more open ground than Primula vulgaris (Primrose) including open fields, meadows, and coastal dunes and clifftops. It is often included in wild-flower seed mixes used to landscape motorway banks and similar civil engineering earth-works where it may be seen in dense stands.

It may be confused with the closely related Primula elatior (Oxlip) which has a similar general appearance although the Oxlip has larger, pale yellow flowers more like a Primrose, and a corolla tube without folds.

Cowslip is a favourite food of wild rabbits.

It is used medicinally as a diuretic, an expectorant, and an antispasmodic, as well as for the treatment of headaches, whooping cough, tremors, and other conditions.

An ancient name for the plant is "paigle" (origin unknown).

This photo was handheld with the only use of a UV filter. It was shot in RAW. I croped it slightly before converting it to JPEG. I tweaked the levels slightly to take away the digital haze. USM (2x) frame and rezise.

Hi Niek,
Fabulous set of flowers. The yellow colour with a touch of orange looks so fresh and refreshing. The dew drops enhances the beauty. Very sharp and good POV and DOF. The BG looks superb and contrasting. Very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hi Niek and very nice to see you back!
We've missed you around here :)

This is a lovely opening photo for your future travelogue (which i'm much looking forward to)!
The shallow DOF here is impressive and it really isolates these miniature flowers from the BG.
All the tones are terrific thanks to the exact exposure management and all the details are razor-sharp.
Can't wait to see more :)

Bravo and TFS

Hoi Niek,
Hele mooie sleutelbloemen, ze zien er zo fris uit en door de focus lijken ze echt zo uit het plaatje te komen. Fijne, vrolijke kleuren.

I'm glad you are back and had a good time and good weather. (It's pouring rain here) One could hardly ask for a more springtime color than this sunny yellow. It's a cheerful composition of these little dew covered flowers. I love the OOF background.

Hi Niek,
Beautiful picture!
I like how you managed to get this image with a very good POV.
The image is so clean and clear...the bright yellow stands out the best of this tiny flowers.
I like so much the contrast witht he dark green tones at the back, and the DOF used to get this nicely blurred background.
I will look forward to catch the full story of the travelogue.
Well done and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Niek,

Hello Niek,
Lovely macro of the Cowslips. They bring back memories of my childhood when fields were covered with these lovely flowers. We still have them but as there are less grazing animals now they are less common. Beautiful composition and I love the colours against the dark background.
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hoi Niek,
ik heb nog aan je gedacht. Man, wat warm.

Hi Niek,
looks like you had a successful photo trip, and the weather seemed to have been co-operating. Amazing how far in advance your Nature is compared to ours.. crocuses are just blooming.
Wonderful shot of this fragile little beauty, I love the DOF, it really focuses on the flower heads. Gorgeous colors and a wonderful sharpness.

Very beautifully captured Niek. The flowers are quite soft, but tastefully / artistically so. The colours and lighting are good, especially with the BG.
Well done

Niek

I hadn't realised I had missed so many! I love the colours on this one and the fact taht you can see some of the dew droplets. The colours are great (sorry already mentioned that one), and the DOF really good. The sharpness is excellent.

As a ongoing learning tool - I find the almost horizontal stem behind and the 'blob' to the right of the lower flower a touch distracting... but its only a minor nit...
