[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
Like my previous post, this one was taken on a rather poorly designed bird feeder at a small restaurant in the upland rainforest village of Paluma. Nevertheless, this Macleay’s Honeyeater (Xanthotis macleayana) is not easily found and even harder to photograph in the wild. They only live in the rainforest canopy between Cooktown and Paluma in northeast Queensland. Although they are relatively common, their cryptic colouring allows them to blend perfectly in the dappled light of their preferred habitat. Additionally, they forage alone and are not very vocal and this makes it a very difficult species to see in the wild.
Despite this reclusive behaviour, Macleay’s Honeyeater cannot resist bananas, so put a bowl with a banana in it near a rainforest where they live and soon you’ll have a party of honeyeaters coming down to feed.
Notice the naked face which allows you to see the ear opening.
