|The geometrical arrangement|
For all of us, when we talk about hive and lodges in the honeycombs, we imagine the hexagonal structures.
And this is true. When you look at a rack in top view, you see beautiful hexagons, regular as perfect as surprising. This corresponds to a "physical economy". It has been demonstrated relatively recently (1999), the structure heagonale was indeed the most "economic" for paving in all circumstances.
But where it gets interesting is when you look at the bottom of the cells: in contrast to what one might think, it is not composed of hexagonal planes.
As shown in the photograph, in fact, hexagonal boxes are joined by three rhombs. Again, it was demonstrated that sructure was the most "economic" junction boxes.
Then the bees "efficient"? As the dreamer and poet, continue to believe.
The photograph was taken in the woods, around 15 hours. The lighting conditions were relatively favorable.
The subject is perfectly still. The camera was set mode aperture priority and sensitivity set to ISO-200.
Given the small size of the pattern photographed, the focal length is 50 mm, Macro mode (the object photographed is a few inches from the target).
To get a good depth of field of the Macro, the opening was set at f/20. The speed was calculated at 1 / 50 th of a second.
