Downy Woodpecker (male)
|[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista|
|remember that Downy Wodpecker i had posted before? that was my first sighting of a woodpecker in this land. |
that was a female.
here then comes a male..
it was a lovely morning. with enough light, but no scorching heat. blue sky with floating clouds. and a continuous sweet breeze made the atmosphere more charming. not a single person around and i was out for a walk.
i found a tiny bird coming from the other side of the lake and then vanished somewhere behind the leaves and branches of a nearby tree. i knew, by then, that it was a Downy Woodpecker. but didn't know that i was to meet a male!
got very less scope and had to take the photograph almost against the Sun. sorry for the poor resolution.
as they say, Downy Woodpecker (Picoides pubescens) is the smallest Woodpecker in North-America. seems so. so cute and tiny the bird was!
but this is not the smallest Woodpecker that i have seen in my life. i saw a very tiny Woodpecker in Buxa Tiger Reserve Forest. almost of the size of a Sparrow. or less than that. i do have a photograph of that Woodpecker too. but ID is yet to be found out.
oh, i just love Woodpeckers!!
someday i would love to have seen all kinds of Woodpeckers living on this planet! a dream.

great capture of this Woodpecker with good sharpness and nice details. I also like the natural colours and your well chosen POV.

I'm finally back from my vacations, so hopefully I will get caught up on my critiques. I see you have been quite busy with your camera as of lately and really getting to know your new found wild friends down there in Tenn.
It's really neat that you were able to capture images of both sexes of this tiny woodpecker so soon. Great shot of this pretty male who looks like he is wondering which tree he will pick on next. Shooting into the sun is always a challenge, but you seemed to handle this shot very well.
