Until now, I had captured Green Bee Eaters either on trees or on electric cables. Yesterday morning, I was on the banks of the local river Tawi to shoot some historical monuments on the opposite banks. While working there, I noticed this Green Bee eater just behind a rock with a Bee in its beak. I swung the camera around and took a few shots. I initially thought it was some kind of green Kingfisher, so I was very excited about it. Later, as it flew off, I realized it was only a Bee Eater. Nevertheless, here it is as I captured it on the rock-strewn banks of a hill river.

The green bee-eater (Merops orientalis) (sometimes little green bee-eater) is a near passerine bird in the bee-eater family. It is resident but prone to seasonal movements and is found widely distributed across sub-Saharan Africa from Senegal and the Gambia to Ethiopia, the Nile valley, western Arabia and Asia through India to Vietnam. They are mainly insect eaters and they are found in grassland, thin scrub and forest often quite far from water. Several regional plumage variations are known and several subspecies have been named.

Hi Ram. The best pic to understand why this bird is called bee-eater..ehehe..absolutely great this capture with the typical food in the beak,i like the metallic colors and the great sharpness despite the distance and location. Have a nice evening and thanks,Luciano

Hello Sir,

I have never seen a Bee-eater on the ground. I always have found them on the high tension electric wires. You have captured a nice frontal view of the Bee eater with its catch. Even in excitement you have captured the colors well with nice details.

Thanks for sharing.

Regards,
Satirtha

Hello Ram,
The Bee Eater is such a beautiful which has become a favorite of mine since joining TN. You did a great job of photographing it on a spur of the moment opportunity.
Well done!!

Hola Ram, linda foto de esta bella especie, captada en un gran momento...saludos.

Hi Ram,

You have captured well the result of the action of the bird. The point of view is showing the details of the Green-bee Eater. The good luminosity is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre
