[Notas - Normas] Nota do Artista
As its name suggests the Dull Heath-blue (Neclucia mathewi) is rather plain in colour, with only a hint of bluish colour on the body. Even the underside of this Lycaenidae is not well marked.

The species is locally distributed along 800km coastal stretch of southeastern Australia. It is restricted to woodlands with a heathland understorey on granite or sandstone up to 1000m. It is locally common, flying from Oct-Dec on the coast and Jan-March in the montane section of its distribution. Adults only live for a few weeks and only one generation annually. It is usually found patrolling around areas that contain the laval food plants (Monotoca sp) or resting in open sunlight like this one.

This is a small species, with a wingspan of 18mm, so I though I’d include a bit of adjacent habitat. Taken at Terrace Falls in the lower Blue Mountains west of Sydney.

PP in Photoshop included cropping and resizing, levels adjusted and a small amount of USM to sharpen it a bit.
Thanks for looking.

Hi Chris,
Not dull at all, your picture! very fine and harmonious presentation of this small butterfly.
Did you know that Nabokov was a specialist of the Lycaenidae?
Best regards

Hello Chris
Beautiful image! I like very much the composition. Thank you very much for it and for the information.
Best wishes

Hola Chris,
Una imagen muy agradable y bonita con gran nitidez. Un cordial saludo

Hi Chris,
paying attention also to the rather unspectacular inhabitants of mother earth, and presenting them in a careful way to an international audience of people interested in nature, I think this has been and still is one of the main goals of TN.
I like the choice of the object very much, including a sound part of its natural habitat. Good details, very subtle colours that show a fine iridenscence in the dark brown scales and furry hairs. Nice dynamical composition.
And well informing notes. Thank you!
Best regards,
