|new way of thinking ... ||mwmod99
|OK everyone .... in continuation of my last forum which generates a heated debate and ended nowhere I would like to come with some suggestion or perhaps to open a debate in regards to the Point System again, but this time I would like to know, what do you think if the moderators removed the points completely ....and the user names for a period of 24 hours for example? That's right! The questions is ....How we can avoid the unnecessary flattering ? How we can separate the lie from the truth in those critiques? How we can develop and enrich our photographic skills and learn about Nature in the same time without complicate information which most of us do not read or understand because of the complexity of that info! In my opinion looking true the images I can easily find certain members making and repeating some mistakes post after post, simply because the critiques they received are always flattering ...No matter what! Those members have potential to develop their skills, but because of the "unfair" comments they do not understand those mistakes, and when they received unexpectedly a deflate critique they accept it as a provocation for a war! It shouldn't be like that! Well some of us has finer sense of humor some do not, but whatever kind of people we are, I know we all love Photography and Nature. In this regards, let me tell you I have received a strange comment last week where the author of this critique made me crying with laughter.
Check this: " Hi George,I do not know what happened in your post production work, but this image looks like a still image of a cartoon rather than a photo.Have a nice day and thanks,.... " WOW! You see ....that is what I am talking about, ...amazing! That is what we need here, honesty combined with humor! Why not! This seemingly harmless comment actually made me think ....perhaps I am doing something wrong! Cool ...how helpful indeed! If I send the same comment to some other members I can assure you that the world war III will be on its way ;))) So, different people different reaction ! However .... however when I see a ridiculous comment like "Fine detail" when there is no detail at all in that image ...then the blood pressure is starting to rise, and when this comment is coming from a great photographer who looks after every single element in his/her own images with care, then my blood is start to boil! Grrrrr.... Why this is necessary ...why? What is the point of that? If you want to encourage someone just tell him what you really thinking! And do not be afraid from revenge, after all this is just a "game" or some form of discharge after a long tiring day ...you name it, but I guarantee you ... won't be killed!
So, lets imagine that tomorrow morning when you sit down in front of the computer with a cup of hot coffee, and open Treknature you discover that the usernames are gone ...imagine ! You do not know who owns the copyright of this or that image, then you send your critique, but this time you think twice more carefully because you are not in a hurry to deliver all the permitted 20 points in order to receive a slap on the back in return ... right! Then in the following day, the usernames can appear together with all the valuable information including where the image has been taken, camera used, equipment etc.etc! What do you think? If this is technically possible the life in Treknature can become even more interesting in my opinion! Have a great time in Treknature dear folks! Love you all!

|Thank you John Lennon... Oops! I mean thank you George Veltchev...
Really cool idea indeed, even if I have no idea how such a tools could be implanted on TN but the way you suggest to follow could be done if people would act like this So, lets imagine that tomorrow morning when you sit down in front of the computer with a cup of hot coffee, and open Treknature you discover that the usernames are gone ...imagine ! You do not know who owns the copyright of this or that image, then you send your critique, but this time you think twice more carefully because you are not in a hurry to deliver all the permitted 20 points in order to receive a slap on the back in return ...
Imagine! Or... Just do it! :o)
Thank you George I have really enjoyed your discussion.

I'm a 100% behind this idea! I think however that we can recoignize the style or the favorite subjects of one or the other members. But a try would be welcome, at least from my part.

Great idea indeed
Maybe another one: all over the web you can nowadays chose like it or don't like it with a counter. Why not for each critique? Nowadays you can chose on TN usefull critique but there is no counter for each critique.
Have a nice weekend

|There is an option to turn of your points and to not display members names. So basically you can already start.

You can mark a critique as useful and it will have a counter as well. This is how you become a gold crtiquer.

|good idea, George. i really appreciate and support your concept and effort to bring transparency in TN's rating system. exactly what i had noticed when i joined TN. i found some members who were owners of huge points, were getting good ratings and pleasing critiques.. even for their poor posts! i wondered why?! then i realized that these people were here for a LONG time. hence, they were experienced and well-known amongst the people. as per our traditions [talking about my country], i automatically learnt to respect them for them being old and for their experience. so, instead of joining the queue, i preferred silence in case of their poor posts. but the logic freak person inside me was having some problem in digesting all these. sometimes, just couldn't stop being analytic and had come up with some criticisms.. it was complicated, indeed.
coming to your suggestions...
let the Point System be there. after all, people love gaining :)
but if, as you have suggested, the users names are kept hidden for a while, that certainly is going to make TN more interesting. people won't have to give importance to whose photography it is, but the sole concern will be the quality and appeal of the work.
still some problems are there..
(1)a/ for how long? you said, 24 hrs [as an example of course]. but what if people get tricky and post their remarks after 24 hrs? :)
to stop that, the rating system should be inactivated after 24 hrs. which means any critiquing after that period will be allowed but without any point.
b/ now here, the question is again, for how long? is the duration of 24hrs sufficient? not many of us get scope to log in to TN on everyday, you see... in that case don't you think that a photograph may suffer the partiality [point-wise] of PROBABILITY?
(2) many members have their signature tones in their photographs or notes... you see a photograph or go through a note, you simply know who it is, right?
(3) what will happen to my "A photograph by..." signature text??
think. lets all of us think. thinking is exercise. good for health :)
i have my answer. but it can wait.
PS: George, your last reply to my comment in your previous [blocked] post was cute :D
"super good sharpness
great details and beautiful colours
thanks greeting ....." ???
[ha ha ha.. lol...] i had given it a thought... very seriously, trust me :) ... but seems, that was not me. wrong number :)
"A top capture of this species,
Excellent POV that catches the lighting well to show fine natural colors. The composition matches the POV, taken with fine sharpness against the contrasting smooth BG.
too expensive, dear! sorry can't afford that :D :D :D

|If it's honesty you're seeking don't post the name of the person writing the critique!
|Re: new way of thinking ... ||vanda
I agree with Anne. May be possible to recognize the style of the photographer, however a try would be very useful and interesting.
Great idea George!!
Nice day to all.
